Support for the establishment of new legislation governing Manufactured Home Ownership
We, the undersigned, support the Active Manufactured Home Owners Society’s Project proposal to collaborate with the B.C. Law Institute in designing and implementing an in-depth study of the Acts and legal concepts pertaining to the Manufactured Home housing sector in B.C. The ultimate goal is to arrive at a set of recommendations that would support a new law governing Manufactured Homes in British Columbia, and the subsequent harmonization of Acts with stipulations implicating Manufactured Homes in B.C.
The discrepancies between the status, rights and obligations afforded under the designation of Personal Property, as provided only in the BC Manufactured Home Act, vs. Real Property, as provided in the B.C. Manufactured Home Tax Act, the B.C. Assessment Act, and B.C. Homeowner Grant are of critical importance to the enactment of legislative directives toward Manufactured Homes in British Columbia. These Acts, and others, must be harmonized to form a basis that ensures fair and equitable outcomes for Manufactured Home Owners in British Columbia. Finally, a new Act is required to govern Manufactured Homes on Leased land and to better protect the rights of both homeowners and landowners.
